Powering Sustainable Solutions through Our Food Future and COIL

As the City of Guelph began implementing its Future Ready strategic plan, one of the standout programs that drove tangible impact was the Smart Cities’ Our Food Future. Our Food Future was born in 2019 from a vision of sustainability and community.

Powering a sustainable economy

In 2022, Council approved the 2022-2026 Economic Development and Tourism Strategy (EDT Strategy). It set the stage to guide programming and investment in Economic Development, Tourism, and the Guelph Junction Railway (GJR).

MAT is expanding tourism opportunities in Guelph

In the first 16 months of the Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT), guests visiting Guelph have contributed $1.2 million to the city. The MAT which came into effect in September 2022 added a four per cent tax charged on short-term stays in places like hotels, motels, short term rentals, and bed and breakfasts that are less than 30 days.
